dados meteorol{\'o}gicos de superf{\'{\i}}cie.
localizada em Bras{\'{\i}}lia (DF).
o par{\^a}metro Kt e a outra utilizando tanto Kd quanto Kt.
utiliza{\c{c}}{\~a}o.
ABSTRACT: The role of each component of the Earth's energy balance
and its corresponding influence on Earth's climate is the key to
understanding the climate and its variability. Part of the solar
energy from the sun, absorbed by the Earth is re-emitted at longer
wavelengths. When this radiation is emitted by the atmosphere and
clouds toward the surface, it is known as downward longwave
radiation. The study aims at estimating the downward longwave
radiation using Artificial Neural Networks having as input surface
data. The data used are temperature, relative humidity, pressure
and downward longwave radiation measured in one of the stations of
the National Organization System of Environmental Data (SONDA),
located in Brasilia (DF). As the downward longwave radiation is
also influenced by cloudiness, cloudiness parameters were
calculated, which were also used for the network training. The
cloudiness parameters used were the ratio between the measured
global radiation on the surface and the radiation in the top of
the atmosphere; and the ratio of surface diffuse radiation and the
radiation at the top of the atmosphere, called, respectively, Kt
and Kd. The network training was performed in two ways, the first
using only the parameter Kt and the other using both Kd and Kt.
After training the neural networks, the results were divided into
two categories, one for the months from October to March (wetter
months) and another for the months April to September (drier
months). Both neural networks had better performances for the
driest months with correlations of 0.97 using Kd and of 0.93
without its use. For the wettest months, there were correlations
of 0.80 using Kd and 0.70 without its use. It is observed a strong
influence of cloudiness in the longwave radiation estimation,
considering that in the wettest months, and consequently, more
nebulous, the estimation had lower results. Another factor to be
emphasized is cloudiness estimation quality, because in the cases
which it was used both parameters of cloudiness, rather than one,
there were more satisfactory results, indicating that as better
the cloud estimation is, better the quality results will be.",
